If your tastes are eclectic and you are looking for something different, this just might be for you. This vase is 6 1/2 inches wide by 12 inches tall and it's made from birch. It has one large prominent knot on one side and a smaller knot on the other side but the main thing that sets it apart is that I dyed it orange. The whole piece was dyed orange and then I sanded it back to leave the ends distinctively orange with the rest much lighter and picked up mainly in the grain patterns. Around the large knot the color was picked up more and really sets off the knot and the grain around it. The whole piece was turned while it was still green and wet which allows it to warp and even crack a little. It was finished with several coats of high gloss poly, buffing between coats to give a glassy finish. So what you have is a piece that it rustic because of the warping, eclectic because of the color and refined because of the finish.
