A piece of art (hollow form) made from maple. Actually it's Ambrosia Maple because it has a few pin holes in it which are made when the Ambrosia beetle attacks the wood. As the beetle works it's way through the wood it leaves behind a toxin that causes the darker streaks which are telltale signs of Ambrosia Maple. I have dyed this piece a combination of blue, green and turquois and then sanded it back to get the layering effect that you see here. It's 10 inches wide by 5 inches tall and it weighs a fraction of an ounce less than 16 ounces. I finished it with several coats of high gloss polyurethane buffing between coats to get the deep shine that you see here.
