An art piece with a little bit of everything, it's made from ebony and black cherry. The tall thin base and the finial are made from ebony while the globe is made from black cherry with some of the bark left for a natural edge around the top. The globe has been hollowed out to about 1/8 inch and then I added a series of holes that follow the darker grain pattern. It was bleached just slightly and then a white pickling was added so there is just a trace of white if you look closely, especially in the holes. The whole piece was then finished with several coats of spray on lacquer. The total height is 15 1/2 inches and the globe is 5 1/2 inches across. I would advise setting it on a mantle or someplace that can't be bumped. It is pretty stable but a good bump on a coffee table or such could cause it to tip and it is fragile.
